Dear Mum and Dad,

I arrived yesterday in England and everything is going well. The English school system is very different from ours in Belgium. The classes are different, and shorter, but what shocked me the most was what was served for lunch ! Not only do the children here have a choice between a huge amount of dishes, but they also get to have junk food all the time !

Today we were given a choice between sausages ( or bangers ) and mashed potatoes, burgers and fries, beef Wellington or tomatoe soup.    And there was lots more for dessert !

IÕm not sure if I agree with with this system or not. It is nice to be able to choose our meals , and not have them forced upon us by the government. But I have noticed that obesity is more of a problem in Britain than back home. I admire the trust that is endowed upon the children, but I wonder if they do not abuse that trust and twist it to their advantage.

Luckily, thanks to the childrenÕs swipe cards, the parents are informed of what their children eat. I just hope that they control the amount of junk food in their childrenÕs diet.

I will write to you again soon,

With love,

Max.
